aThe bas-relief depicts Zvartnots temple with Noah's Ark. Built in the 7th Century aAD. near Echmiatsin, Zvartnots is of immense architectural value. Having been abuilt on several columns it could survive only till the 10th century. When in the abeginning of the 20th century this site was being excavated many specialists acould hardly accept its reconstruction model designed by famous Armenian aarchitect Toros Toramanyan as it was difficult to believe that such a huge and acomplicated construction could have been built those days, and amazingly at that time one of the abas-relieves of St. Chapelle church in Paris came to prove Toramanyan's version; the bas-relief adepicts Zvartnots temple with Noah's Ark and it looks like the model represented by the architect.
Garni
aThe only pagan temple to have been preserved in Armenia, Garni was dedicated ato Mihr-the God of Sun. In later times the complex became the site of the royal asummer residence, with a fortress, palace and ornate mosaic tiled bathrooms abeing added, the ruins of which may be found next to the restored Greco-aRoman temple.
