Capital: Yerevan, established in 782 BC.
Population: About 2,982,904 (July 2005)
Climate: The climate is continental; winters are relatively cold while summers are dry and hot.
Land Area: Armenia occupies a territory approximately 29,800 square kilometers. The average altitude is 1,900 meters above sea level. The highest peak is Mountain Aragats 4,090 meters, and the lowest point is ravine Debed with an altitude of 380 meters.
Geography: The Republic of Armenia lies in a triangular section of the Transcaucasus, bordered by Azerbaijan, Iran, Turkey & the Republic of Georgia.
Languages: Eastern Armenian is the official language of the Republic of Armenia. Most of the population has good command of Russian & English. French, German, Spanish, number of oriental languages are also spoken.
Religion: Armenians are Christians. The center of Armenian Apostolic Church is the Holy Echmiatsin which is also the residence of the Patriarch of all Armenians.
Government: The official title of the country is the Republic of Armenia . The flag of the Republic is tricolor & made of three horizontal & equal stripes of red, blue, and orange. The highest executive authority is the President & the legislative body is the National Assembly.
